2007 gmc yukon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It has all the right stuff. The ride is better than ever, handling is steady and light. These are benefits of a new boxed frame for rigidity, a redesigned suspension, a new ring-and-pinion steering system, and other changes.  the driver sits way up high and feels like he or she is master or mistress of his or her domain. The optional leather seats are wonderfully comfortable for long distances. The pedals adjust for long or short legs. The instruments and gauges are finally stylish. There are new halogen headlamps that are bigger for improved visibility at night. Storage space is intelligently designed and all over, including a huge center console.  those in the second row will find a lot of leg room. Bucket seats with a center console between them are available for the second row, turning them into first-class accommodations; and there is an optional power folding option, making it easier for third-row passengers to climb in. There's even decent legroom and good headroom in the third row, something few suvs can claim.  the yukon xl seats six to nine people, depending on the seating configuration. Essentially gmc's version of the chevy suburban, the yukon xl stretches the already long wheelbase of the yukon another 20 inches. There are many vehicles that seat seven people without taking up so much space to do it, but not quite so comfortably, nor with so much room left over for cargo.  towing is the other area where the yukon xl excels. It's a great vehicle for drivers who want an suv that can tow cars, boats, horses, and travel trailers. An optional 6. 0-liter v8 for the yukon delivers more towing power.  and at the top of the line is the yukon xl denali. The denali is almost a separate breed. It has its own engine, a 6. 2-liter v8 based on the corvette's 7. 0-liter, making 380 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. It also has its own transmission, a six-speed automatic with manual mode and its own all-wheel-drive system. The denali comes standard with the autoride active electronic suspension, which is optional on the regular yukon xl.  deluxe options include a liftgate that raises and lowers under power, a dvd entertainment system, a bose sound system, a navigation system, and a rearview monitor that improves safety and makes it easier to hook up trailers. lineupthe 2007 gmc yukon xl comes in basic sle 37,665) or slt 41,800) trim. They all have a tow/haul mode, which reduces upshifting and downshifting, and also shifts quicker, so the transmission doesn't work so hard when pulling a big load. Transmission oil temperature is part of the instrumentation (along with a tire pressure monitor).  the sle comes standard equipment with cloth interior, six-way power driver's seat, 60/40 second row bench seat, two-passenger third row seat, three-zone climate control, am/fm/6cd/mp3, rear seat audio and climate controls, power windows and locks with remote entry, cruise control, heated sideview mirrors, 17-inch aluminum wheels, roof rack rails, deep tinted glass, foglamps, and last but definitely not least, a tow package including heavy hitch, seven-pin wiring harness, two-inch receiver and electric brake control harness. Full length airbag curtains are optional (standard with slt), but front side airbags are not available, which is surprising, given the competition and price. The xl earned the maximum five stars in the government's head-on crash tests.  options include a navigation system 2145), rear-seat entertainment system 1295), power sunroof 995), second-row bucket seats 490), power release for those seats 425), power liftgate 350), rearview camera monitor 195), three-passenger third-row seat 100), heated washer fluid system 85), and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels 1795). walkaroundthe 2007 gmc yukon xl should not be confused with the yukon. The xl stands for extra long. Though the same width, the yukon xl is about 20 inches longer than the yukon; it's the same length as its near twin, the chevy suburban, measuring 18 1/2 feet.  the suburban and yukon xl are among the most familiar vehicles on the road. They share styling although not the details. For example, the yukon has a cleaner air intake below the bumper than the suburban, a different shape to the headlights, and the grille is not split.  the 2007 redesign makes subtle but effective changes to the exterior, and gm has done an excellent job with the yukon xl, making this huge vehicle look smooth, if not sleek. Body-colored side moldings and door handles help a lot. Finally, they got rid of the chrome!  the running board is integrated and unobtrusive, extending no farther than necessary, with a black grippy coating. The tinted glass behind the c-pillar is expansive, and looks nice. The front end has been cleaned up, with beefy block-like headlamps over a front bumper fascia that has vastly tighter tolerances with the body. In fact, all the panels are a tighter fit. It's nice to see that gm can produce this kind of quality.  the windshield is more sloped than before, although the tailgate remains vertical. The rear window opens separately, which is convenient. At least the liftgate is aluminum, which would reduce the grunting, if not the stretching way up to reach it. The split barn-style doors, handy when trailers are attached, are ancient history, no longer available. interiorthe yukon xl is comfortable for long tows or major outings. It's a wonderful feeling to drive down the highway in one of these, sitting up high with all the comforts, including the optional bose sound system.  completely redesigned for the 2007 model year, the dashboard has been lowered by six inches, and the seats redesigned and raised, with a more convenient and secure seatbelt mounting on the b pillar. They are very comfortable, in leather.  we especially like the touch-screen radio/navigation system, much easier to operate than in so many cars, mercedes, for example. We set the programs we liked, and could switch from favorite xm to am to fm stations with one finger push; many vehicles require switching bands, then switching stations.  the switchgear is simple, and the instrumentation is clean. The glovebox is 25 percent larger than the one in pre-2007 models. Two cupholders are provided in a removable tray forward of the console and they work very well. There's another cupholder in each door pocket. A slot in the dash just left of the turn signal is perfect for coins or toll-road tickets. The pedals are adjustable, to accommodate short wives and tall husbands or vice versa.  the rearview camera and monitor is quite useful, although it might take some new skills to fully use. One night we had to back up a narrow winding driveway squeezed by trees, and it could only be done by using the monitor. Without this device, we would have been backing-up blind. It's also quite useful for spotting a child playing behind the truck after shifting into reverse or maybe a short, unseen pole. With a little practice, the camera makes parallel parking easier and quicker. It can also be used to help position the tow ball under a trailer hitch, reducing the number of times the driver has to jump out to check distance and alignment.  the yukon xl can seat six, seven, eight or nine passengers, depending on the seats selected.

2008 gmc acadia review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Eight-passenger capability with better fuel economy. introductionthe gmc acadia may be a harbinger of refined, fuel-efficient vehicles that offer the utility of a big suv. The acadia is a crossover suv, meaning it looks like a truck but it's built like a car. Crossovers have been gaining in popularity because they make so much sense for so many families, but what sets the acadia apart is its size: it's big, similar in size to the gmc yukon and chevy tahoe, inside and out. And it can carry a lot of cargo. For starters, it's big and roomy. The driver sits high off the ground and benefits from that commanding view down the road that many like. Features like rear-seat dvd entertainment make it a good choice for families.  the only places where the acadia falls short of truck-based suvs is in heavy-duty towing or for slogging through military-grade muck. Properly equipped, the gmc acadia can tow 4,500 pound, while a yukon is rated to pull 7,500 pounds or more. Based on the silverado pickup, the yukon can handle rugged terrain. It absorbs rough pavement in a soothing manner and takes corners reassuringly for such a large vehicle. It handles better and is smoother than a yukon and other truck-based suvs. Gmc's 275-horsepower 3. 6-liter v6 is smooth and sophisticated and supplies good acceleration performance. Its six-speed automatic transmission is responsive, smooth and efficient, further aiding fuel economy.  three rows of seats provide room for seven or eight, though it's more comfortable with six. Two adults and two or three children plus their belongings can be carried with ease. Acadia comes loaded with safety equipment, including curtain air bags that provide head protection and side-impact airbags that provide torso protection; electronic stability control and other active safety features can help the driver avoid accidents.  for 2008, acadia comes standard with brake assist, which helps the driver apply full braking performance in a panic stop. A rearview camera now comes with the optional navigation system, and we recommend it highly to help the driver avoid a tragic accident when backing up. Improvements to the all-wheel-drive and traction-control systems enhance and refine their performance for 2008. Xm satellite radio comes standard on the 2008 acadia. A second-row center console has been added to seven-seat models, there are new metallic colors, and other equipment added for 2008. lineupthe 2008 gmc acadia comes in basic sle and up-level slt trim. Tires are 255/65 on 18-inch painted aluminum wheels. Options for sle include bose stereo 870), second-row captain's chairs and console 495), and other equipment from the higher-line model. Eight-passenger seating is available for a credit (-$495). Dvd entertainment is offered as a stand-alone option 1,295). Brake assist has been added for 2008.  air curtains are low-pressure air bags that come down from the ceiling and cover the side windows (of all three rows on the acadia) to provide head protection in a side-impact crash or rollover; in a rollover the air curtains could also help keep arms and heads inside the vehicle. Studies by the insurance institute for highway safety (iihs), which is funded by the insurance industry, have shown such head protection greatly improves the chance of surviving a side-impact crash. However, air curtains are not a substitute for seat belts. The front-seat side-impact air bags provide torso protection in a side-impact crash. Iihs studies have also shown these, too, are valuable, but not as important as head protection.  onstar uses a global positioning system and an extra powerful cellular telephone to put the driver in touch with the onstar center which is manned 24/7. The center can tell where the vehicle is located and send help or provide other assistance. Should the air bags deploy the system can automatically notify the onstar center that an accident has occurred and where the vehicle is located so it can then send help. Onstar service is free for the first year but after that requires a subscription fee. walkaroundat 201 inches overall, the gmc acadia is a foot longer than a honda pilot and almost 8 inches longer than a ford explorer. The gmc acadia shares basic mechanical components with the buick enclave and saturn outlook.  the exterior design team for the gmc acadia managed to give a relatively large vehicle a look that has moved away from bulky without sacrificing a kind of active grace. Happily gmc has avoided the threatening-suv school of design that has been so popular.  the rounded front end features a bight grille surround framing a prominent gmc emblem. Distinctively curved headlight clusters give the acadia a slightly startled expression. Projector beams are standard; high-intensity discharge (hid) head lights are optional. Small round fog lights nestle below. The front bumper is massive, but this is camouflaged somewhat by its black color and by a bright strip at the top.  most noticeable from the side are rounded fender flares and a horizontal character line that sets out to connect them but disappears into the doors instead. Tasteful bright trim and polished aluminum roof rails add visual interest. The shape of the acadia is aerodynamically efficient (for an suv), with a drag coefficient of 0. 344. Heated, power-adjustable outside mirrors are standard on all models. Body-color outside mirrors with integrated turn signals are standard on slt; power-folding mirrors with integrated turn signals and auto-dimming come with the slt-2 package.  the rear view is generic suv/crossover accented by interesting two-tone taillight clusters and quad exhaust tips.  eighteen-inch wheels and tires are standard, and 19-inch wheels are available. General motors has acknowledged the interiors of many gm vehicles needed to be upgraded, and the acadia engineers banished cheap-looking plastic and bargain-basement cloth. Their effort shows in the acadia.  they did not lose track of basic functionality, however. The heating and cooling controls are easy to find and use. The instruments are legible, not lost in some fussy attempt at a complex design.  big cupholders and a deep bin between the front seats are a plus, but the pockets on the inside door panels are too narrow for any meaningful storage.  the front seats are wide and comfortable. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes, making it easy for drivers tall and short to get comfortable. As with any suv, the driver sits high, with a good view down the road. But visibility to the rear isn't great, requiring care when backing up. We recommend opting for ultrasonic rear park assist, which can detect objects out of the driver's line of sight. We further recommend getting the rearview camera, which comes with the navigation system.  the 2008 acadia sle comes standard with eight-passenger seating; a 60/40 split bench in the second row accommodates three people. The up-level slt models come standard with second-row captain's chairs; they cut passenger capacity to seven but are more comfortable. Either model can be ordered with the other seating arrangement, however, for extra cost on the sle or a credit on the slt.
